eChecks are electronic bank-account payments that perform a function similar to paper checks without requiring the merchant to receive the original paper instrument. In the United States, eCheck transactions commonly use the ACH Network, which processes electronic credit and debit entries between participating financial institutions. Nacha’s ACH framework includes one-time and recurring account payments as well as direct deposits.

An eCheck debit requires authorization and bank-account information such as routing and account numbers. Submission is not the same as irreversible settlement: ACH entries can be returned for defined reasons, including account or authorization problems. A merchant can therefore wait for additional processing before treating deposited funds as fully cleared, even if the customer sees the debit instruction quickly.

For casino use, eChecks are bank-funded deposits rather than card transactions. The casino or processor may verify account ownership, set deposit limits and delay withdrawal of newly deposited funds until the payment is sufficiently settled. Payouts are a separate transaction and may be sent by ACH credit or another verified method. Current authorization wording, account data and processor rules should be reviewed for each casino because an old eCheck approval does not create a permanent debit mandate for unrelated transactions.
