TRX, historically called Tronix, is the native token of the TRON network. TRON uses TRX for transaction fees, staking and governance. One TRX equals one million sun, the smaller unit used by the protocol and APIs.

That distinction is especially relevant to token transfers such as TRC-20 assets, which can require smart-contract resources even though they use a TRON address. For an online transfer, the receiving service must explicitly support the TRON route and the intended asset. A TRX-denominated balance also carries ordinary crypto price risk against fiat currencies.
