The Thai baht is Thailand's currency, identified by THB and the symbol ฿. The Bank of Thailand manages the country's banknotes. Series 17 notes circulate in 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 baht denominations, and the central bank has been shifting lower denominations to polymer for durability.
The 20-baht polymer note entered circulation in 2022, followed by new 50- and 100-baht polymer notes on 21 November 2025. The existing paper versions and previous valid series remain legal tender, so polymer and paper notes can coexist. For an online THB balance, the amount is recorded in baht regardless of which physical note series exists. A foreign bank or card can still perform a conversion before the transfer reaches the account, and the customer exchange rate used in that payment is independent of the Bank of Thailand's banknote design or issuance policy.
