The Norwegian krone is Norway's currency, identified by NOK and commonly written kr. Norges Bank issues Norwegian banknotes and coins. Current banknotes are 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 kroner and belong to Series VIII, whose designs are based on Norway's relationship with the sea.

In April 2026 Norges Bank decided to keep the 1,000-krone banknote as legal tender, while stopping ordinary bank orders for new 1,000-krone notes. That means the denomination remains valid even though its distribution is being reduced. NOK is independent of the euro despite Norway's close economic ties with Europe. For an online balance held in NOK, amounts are accounted for in kroner; payments originating in EUR, USD or another currency may still be converted by the bank or processor before settlement.
