The euro is the common currency of the euro area and uses the code EUR and symbol €. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, becoming the 21st member of the euro area. A payment card or bank account held in another currency may still create a foreign-exchange conversion, so the account denomination and the settlement currency of the funding method are separate matters.
